My GF is a superior specimen. 12:30 am and she’s out here lettering my tires for me while I tinker with the e24.
(Still need to wipe some excess polish of the wheels, and color the last E)
New tires on the salad shooters. Anybody got an idea of how to finish them? Continue polishing? (Tedious, but the “right” way) Plastidip white? (The temporary and easy way out) or paint silver? (The semi-permanent and easy way out) leave the insides black? Paint them the same color as the face? keep in mind it goes on a red car. Also no black faces. I hate black wheels.
Some examples:
That last one is peak 80s, but unfortunately, also far beyond my abilities. If I went white, I’d probably go with black inserts for ease of cleaning. I want them to look nice, but they are winter wheels on a daily.

First. Marry that one!
Second. Go the temp route with the White. Those wheels are a biatch to polish properly with tires still on them.

That’s probably the best idea. I’ve had white wheels before but they got filthy really quick. Luckily these would be easier to clean than the ones I’ve had in the past.

You’re putting sawblades on the 6?!? You (and she) are my hero.
Also, why anyone would 5-bolt an E30 only to stancebro it is beyond me.

What’s the best way to letter tires so it doesn’t wear off immediately? Is that just a whiteout pen or something special?

Thanks haha. And yeah, they probably just did it to fit the wheels. It was just the best result that showed a white wheel. I’m willing to bet it’s an adapter and not a hub swap.

I’ve heard that before but I’m not sure what to think. I’ve never actually really seen Adele other than that one black and white album cover.

This is what we’re using. Can’t speak to long term reliability but it’s not rubbing off on a gentle touch. Hopefully it will stand up to the pressure washer, but I’m going to give it about a week to cure before trying. We tried a sharpie brand oil based paint pen and it didn’t work worth a shit. This is acrylic based. They do have tire-specific pens, but I’m too impatient to get these wheels on the car.

Brake dust could be a bear now that I think about it. PD is easier to remove later and can be “touched up” though. Heading into winter with bare polished wheels seems worse.

Speaking of dust, any recommendations for pads that cut down on dust? I’ve heard Hawk HPS are good ones. The last wheels I had PD’ed white were dished, and once a week I had to spend at least an hour with a magic eraser to keep them semi-clean.

That is something I can’t help with. The last vehicle I had with that issue was a Dakota R/T. I painted the wheels a dingy bronze color so I didn’t have to worry about it. The idea backfired. Every show or race I took it to people gave me s--t about “brake dust”.

I love bronze, brushed gold, and off-white/cream colored wheels, but that’s exactly why I don’t want to paint them that color. They do always look somewhat dirty at first glance.

I am in love with those turbine wheels. When I have the spare cash I’d like to get some rally style wheels for my car, and something like that is high on the list.

Any idea what something like that might cost? I was searching for a “round” sticker but I couldn’t turn up any results remotely similar.

They are one of my favorites. I love wheels with large faces. Unfortunately I bought them at the beginning of the decline of the market on these, but the tires they came with were too large to fit. Now all the stance Bros have abandoned them and they’re fairly cheap, about half of what they were going for. I should’ve just waited a year! Oh well.

no idea, i’d just pick a local place and give them a call. i bet some places even have a graphics department that could replicate the design for you

I’ve had Akebono pads on my last two cars. They’re no track pad, but they produce so little brake dust that I rarely have to clean my wheels. I’ve been very happy with them for the last two years.

Good to know. I’m not sure what brand of pads are on there now, but they are pretty good I’d say. 2 1/2 years of ownership with slotted rotors and still have about 1/2" thickness left. Just a bit dusty.

For funsies I colored my tires with chalk I had a couple weeks ago just to see what they’d be like. Of course it wore out within a few days, but it was neat while it lasted. Not very dramatic though because the letters are so small on the low profile tires I have (I really want smaller wheels w/bigger tires) but it’s kinda neat. Super easy to do with chalk since I just turned it sideways and ran it over the raised letters a few times, barely ever touching the sidewall itself.
(Also, idk why my phone’s photo uploaded sideways lol - just turn your head XD )
(edit: turns out it only looks sideways in the preview and is actually right-side up in the actual message)

Consider it kinja’d. My mobile browser does the same thing with turning pictures sideways in the preview.
I’ve also liked the look of white letter tires, just never found anything that would work. There’s a picture of the pen we used elsewhere in this thread. Just make sure you use something acrylic based. Oil based won’t stick to the tire.
The chalk idea is cool though, and I like how it just does the outlines. Maybe there’s a longer lasting chalk out there.
